About the Mangaray

The Mangaray is a rare and exotic freshwater stingray, often considered a variant or close relative of the Motoro stingray, but with distinct characteristics that set it apart. It is highly sought after by collectors for its unique pattern, which often features elongated spots or "manga" shapes, and its relatively peaceful temperament. Originating from specific regions in South America, the Mangaray is a true gem for the advanced hobbyist.

Appearance

Mangarays have a round to oval disc with a base color ranging from dark brown to olive-gray. The defining feature is the pattern of elongated, sometimes comma-shaped or "manga" spots, which can be bright white, cream, or golden. These spots are often surrounded by darker rings, creating a distinctive look. The snout is moderately elongated.

Tank Requirements

A minimum tank size of 300 gallons is recommended for a single adult Mangaray. Soft, sandy substrate is essential. Water parameters: temperature 78-86°F, pH 6.0-7.5.

Diet

Mangarays are carnivores: earthworms, blackworms, shrimp, sinking carnivore pellets, and chopped seafood.
