About the Albino Silver Arowana

The Albino Silver Arowana is a rare and visually stunning color variant of the common Silver Arowana. Lacking melanin, these fish exhibit a creamy white or pale yellow body with translucent fins and characteristic pink or red eyes. The lack of dark pigment makes the scales appear almost luminous, creating a striking contrast in any aquarium.

Appearance

Albino Silver Arowanas have a pure white to pale gold body color. Their eyes are pink or red, a hallmark of true albinism. The fins are often translucent with a slight yellowish tint. As they mature, some individuals may develop a faint golden sheen. They retain the elongated body and upturned mouth of their non-albino counterparts.

Size & Growth

Albino Silver Arowanas grow at a similar rate to standard Silvers, reaching 24-30 inches in captivity. They require large tanks and excellent water quality to thrive.

Tank Requirements

A minimum tank size of 300 gallons is recommended for an adult. The tank should be long (at least 8 feet) with a secure lid. Strong filtration and regular water changes are crucial. Albino fish can be more sensitive to bright light, so consider dimming lights or providing shaded areas. Water parameters: temperature 75-86°F, pH 6.0-7.5, soft to moderately hard water.

Diet

Albino Silver Arowanas are carnivorous and accept a varied diet: high-quality floating or sinking pellets, live or frozen shrimp, crickets, small fish, earthworms, and occasional treats like chopped squid or krill.

Compatibility

Like other Silver Arowanas, albinos can be kept with large, peaceful tank mates such as stingrays, large catfish, and robust cichlids. Avoid smaller fish that may be eaten. Only one arowana per tank is recommended.
